History of Success
Skoloff & Wolfe is a New Jersey law firm with a national reputation and a far-reaching presence. Founded in 1961, our attorneys have helped our clients achieve successful outcomes in matters of divorce and family law, commercial, industrial and multi-family property tax relief, and complex business litigation on behalf of individuals, partnerships and corporate clients.
The firm is led by co-managing partners and brothers, Jonathan W. Wolfe and David B. Wolfe and represents notable individuals and business clients in matters of regional and national interest. Whether representing high net worth individuals or their spouses in matters of divorce, litigating on behalf of Fortune 500 clients for lower assessments from property taxing authorities in New Jersey and across the country from New York City to Florida to Hawaii, or representing individuals or companies in high-stakes complex business disputes, Skoloff & Wolfe fights hard for clients to ensure they receive successful outcomes.
The evidence is in how our practice groups excel for our clients. The firm’s property tax group has secured recent results that include more than $1.7 billion in assessment reductions on behalf of our clients, in addition to specializing in underwriting and due diligence for billions of dollars of transactions. Our family law group has been repeatedly recognized by U.S. News – Best Lawyers as one of New Jersey’s leading practices and we are called upon to handle some of the largest divorce cases in New Jersey and the United States, and our business litigation group has been hailed for our results in high-stakes, bet-the-company litigation.
Leading Locally and Nationally
Our attorneys are not only members of local, state, and national legal associations, we are leading them. Our attorneys have served as President New Jersey State Bar Association, Chair American Bar Association Family Law Section, Chair New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Section, President New Jersey Inns of Court, Chair New Jersey State Bar Association Taxation Section, and Chair American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers New Jersey Chapter. As leaders in the field, we regularly lecture locally and nationally to other attorneys, judges, and experts; and we are often called on by the press to weigh in on complex legal issues.
Through our attorneys’ hard work, leadership, and example of participation in local and national bar associations and professional organizations, we have helped shape a culture of excellence at Skoloff & Wolfe that makes our firm recognized as one of America’s finest.
Recognized by Our Peers
Our achievements for clients have earned our firm and attorney’s consistent recognition, high rankings, and top awards. Honors from publications like Best Lawyers, Best Law Firms, Super Lawyers, US News & World Report, Law Dragon Top 500, and many others are a testament to the firm’s reputation. Our founders, Gary N. Skoloff and Saul A. Wolfe, are recognized leaders in their chosen areas of practice in matrimonial law and real property valuation, respectively. Mr. Skoloff is the co-author of the leading family law treatise in New Jersey, The New Jersey Family Law Practice now in its fifteenth edition. Mr. Wolfe was instrumental in the effort to create the New Jersey Tax Court and past-president of the NJ Bar Association. He helped draft its original Rules of Practice and served as one of the original members of the New Jersey Court Committee on the Tax Court.
Today, our co-managing partners continue our founders’ dedication by asserting their industry-shifting influence in many ways. Jonathan Wolfe has been listed as one of the “Leading Lawyers In America” by Best Lawyers, one of the nation’s “500 Leading Lawyers” by Lawdragon. He recently served as Chair of the American Bar Association’s Family Law Section and has been called “one of the leading matrimonial lawyers in the United States” by International Business Times. He also continues to represent publicly and privately held companies and individuals in high-stakes complex business litigation.
David Wolfe serves on the Board of the National Association of Property Tax Attorneys (NAPTA) and as the Co-Chair of the Real Property Tax Practice Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA). In 2020 he was listed as an ROI Influencer in Real Estate.
Skoloff & Wolfe Inclusion & Diversity
Skoloff & Wolfe, P.C. is deeply committed to the support of inclusion and diversity within our own practice as well as professional organizations in the field of law. Promoting diversity in the legal profession has been a touchstone for Skoloff & Wolfe throughout the firm’s history and we believe our team is stronger if it is built with people with different life experiences and backgrounds.
Advancing Diversity & Inclusion within Legal Organizations
As Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund, Skoloff & Wolfe co-managing partner, Jonathan Wolfe, oversaw the granting of more than $5 million to 350 law students of racial and cultural diversity. As Chair of the ABA Family Law Section, he also established the ABA Family Law Charitable Fund to promote diversity and access to justice by, among other things, supporting a fellowship program that provides funding for diverse lawyers to attend and participate in section conferences.
Co-managing partner, David Wolfe, served as the co-chair for the ABA Diversity & Inclusion 360 Commission and successfully passed the creation of mandatory diversity and inclusion CLE as a separate credit requirement minimum for states’ CLE requirements. In addition, he led the creation of an implicit bias toolkit to increase awareness among judges, prosecutors, and public defenders on the impact of implicit bias and to offer suggestions on combatting it.
Advancing Diversity & Inclusion within the Law Profession
By establishing and matching contributions for the Saul Wolfe Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund, we were able to raise approximately $100K for scholarships for diverse law students. In addition, Saul Wolfe was the 2015 recipient of the New Jersey State Bar Association Diversity Award, given by the Bar Association’s Diversity Committee.
Skoloff & Wolfe Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (SWDEI) Resource Group
The SWDEI Resource Group is a member-led open forum, with the purpose of educating employees, increasing law firm diversity, and promoting inclusivity at the firm with respect to diverse communities, to better serve our employees, clients, and community. SWDEI meets to discuss and plan initiatives and opportunities, and also provides a space for employees to learn more about each other. Among these initiatives is the SWDEI cultural celebration newsletter, which shares resources, events, local businesses, and action items for employees to use and circulate in their professional and personal circles.
