When Henry LaCap joined Skoloff & Wolfe, P.C., it wasn’t the result of a formal search or a drawn-out hiring process. Instead, his arrival came about the way many strong professional relationships do—naturally.
Henry and David Wolfe, Co-Managing Partner at the firm, first got to know each other years ago while practicing in Tax Court. Over time, their paths continued to cross, and they developed a mutual respect through conversations and shared experiences, even without ever working side by side. So when an opportunity opened at Skoloff & Wolfe, P.C., the connection felt like a natural fit.
“I had heard he needed someone with deep experience, so I reached out,” says Henry. “That conversation turned into an opportunity because, as it might have been in some cases, my level of experience wasn’t too much; it was exactly what he was looking for.”
A Multi-State Perspective on Property Tax Law
With nearly three decades of experience—“just shy of 30,” as he puts it—Henry brings a highly specialized focus in property tax appeals. His career spans multiple jurisdictions, including New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Minnesota, giving him a broad perspective on how tax law differs across state lines.
At Skoloff & Wolfe, Henry is leveraging that multi-state experience to expand the firm’s capabilities. While the firm maintains a strong presence in New Jersey, his background handling matters in New York and Pennsylvania allows him to guide clients through the nuances of those jurisdictions with confidence.
His approach is both practical and strategic, grounded in a clear understanding that no two states handle tax law in quite the same way.
“Practicing in New Jersey Tax Court is both rewarding and challenging because it’s highly developed and specialized, with a deep body of case law that demands a strong command of established precedent. I also enjoy New York and Pennsylvania, where fragmented courts create room for creative arguments and out-of-the-box positions.”
While his work is deeply technical, Henry finds the most fulfillment in its collaborative nature. After spending time earlier in his career in a more independent setting, he came to value the importance of working alongside others.
“The most rewarding part of my job is collaborating with people and building meaningful professional relationships.”
Beyond the Practice of Law
Outside of the office, Henry turns to music as a creative outlet. A dedicated guitar enthusiast, his collection includes a Gibson Les Paul, a Gibson Hummingbird acoustic, and a Fender Stratocaster. Though he doesn’t play in a band, preferring to sidestep what he jokingly calls the “relationship dynamics,” he enjoys playing on his own and occasionally with friends. He’s also an avid fan of live music, especially in smaller venues where the experience feels more intimate.
“We’re so glad to have Henry at the firm,” says David Wolfe. “He brings a rare combination of deep experience, practical insight, and professionalism that immediately elevates the work we do for our clients. He’s the kind of attorney whose judgment you trust right away.”
