Barbara A. Schweiger
“The best part about being a lawyer is helping people solve problems.”
Barbara Schweiger focuses her practice on sophisticated business litigation and is currently on the roster of approved civil mediators in the New Jersey Superior Court mediation program. Barbara brought her solid experience in representing clients in the financial services, accounting, architecture, medicine, manufacturing, bio-tech, and pharmaceutical industries to the Skoloff & Wolfe litigation team in 2008.
She has experience pursuing and defending a wide range of business and investment disputes, including claims for breach of contract, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duty, securities and accounting fraud, tortious interference, unfair competition, breach of restrictive covenants, and misappropriation of trade secrets. At Skoloff & Wolfe, clients have also received the unique benefit of her distinctive, focused investigation of the seemingly insurmountable volumes of discovery in complex high-stakes litigation matters. In a victory that received national media attention, Ms. Schweiger successfully defended a hedge fund and an individual against multi-billion dollar civil racketeering and conspiracy claims.
Barbara is also called upon to work with attorneys in our family law group, particularly on complex financial disputes that can arise in the context of high-net worth divorces. Skoloff & Wolfe family law clients have had the benefit of Barbara’s diverse litigation experience – and her passion for brief writing and legal argument – at both the trial and appellate levels.
Barbara is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey, the Essex County Bar Association, and the New Jersey Women Lawyers’ Association, as well as the New Jersey State Bar Association, where she serves on the Business & Commercial Litigation Committee, Legal Education Committee, and Senior Lawyers Committee. She is also a trustee and past president of the Rutgers School of Law-Newark Alumni Association. Barbara also serves on the New Jersey Supreme Court District V-C Fee Arbitration Committee, and is on the New Jersey Superior Court civil, general equity, and foreclosure mediation rosters.
