Real Property Tax and Condemnation Department
The Real Property Tax and Condemnation Department is one of the largest and most experienced in the state, consisting of five lawyers with approximately one hundred years of experience in valuation litigation. The Department is headed by Saul A. Wolfe, the former Tax Assessor of the City of Newark and a frequent author and lecturer on property valuation. Our attorneys have achieved many millions of dollars in property tax savings for our clients throughout the State.
During the past forty-five years, we have represented owners of virtually every type of industrial, commercial and multi-family residential property, including super-regional shopping centers, hotels, manufacturing facilities, office complexes, breweries, golf courses, banks, co-operatives and condominiums.
As Special Municipal Tax Counsel to cities such as Atlantic City, Newark, Linden and Wayne, we have defended major ratables, including the defense of casinos, major shopping centers and corporate headquarters. We have also challenged County Equalization Tables and the Director of Taxation's State School Aid Tables on behalf of our municipal clients and succeeded in substantially reducing their County tax payments and tax appeal refunds.
We have successfully represented our clients in proceedings before the County Boards of Taxation, the New Jersey Tax Court, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court, the Supreme Court of New Jersey, and the Supreme Court of the United States. The scope of the Department’s activity has enabled us to become intimately familiar with, and play an active role in shaping, the applicable laws and regulations that affect these areas of the law.
